Montana License Plate

What is a Montana License Plate?

The Montana Department of Motor Vehicles, which is part of the Department of Justice, issues license plates and manages vehicle registration throughout the state. Residents conduct all registration transactions at their county treasurer’s office.

The current standard license plate was launched in January 2010. The design uses white letters on a blue background with the slogan “Treasure State,” the county prefix number, and a buffalo skull silhouette as a separator between the county code and the plate number.
